LumiDB ❤️ QGIS

We have added support for streaming point clouds directly from LumiDB into QGIS, allowing you to use your data for map creation or geospatial analysis without downloading massive files. By utilizing EPT links, users can instantly stream datasets with full Level of Detail support. This feature takes advantage of LumiDB’s runtime transformation, meaning all existing data is ready to use immediately without time-consuming re-indexing or pre-processing.

We just added support for streaming 3D point cloud data from LumiDB directly to QGIS, which has been one of the most requested features by our users. This integration allows you to use your LumiDB data as a precise basis for map creation and geospatial analysis without downloading massive datasets to your local drive.
You can now generate a link to your point cloud in EPT (Entwine Point Tile) format in LumiDB, similarly to 3D Tiles which we’ve supported for a while already. Both formats support streaming levels of detail, which allows you to view large datasets smoothly without overwhelming your system.
To get started, copy the link from LumiDB, open the "Add Point Cloud Layer" dialog in QGIS, paste the link and your API key, and the layer will stream immediately.

The Power of a Point Cloud Database

This functionality is available immediately for all users and existing datasets without any need to re-import or re-process data, which highlights the efficiency of a database over traditional file-based workflows.
In a file-based workflow, generating EPT or 3D Tiles usually requires a separate time-consuming indexing process using expert tools. LumiDB simply transforms the data into the requested transmission format automatically at runtime. There is no precomputing and no waiting. You simply ingest the data once into LumiDB and stream it out in the format your external tools require.

Eliminating Data Silos

Our mission is to make 3D point cloud data accessible in any tool. We want to destroy data silos and ensure geospatial data flows efficiently between systems. We are strong proponents of open standards and open source software, which is why we’re especially proud of this update.
And we won’t stop here, as we’ll be adding new formats and integrations soon. So stay tuned!
